Holistic Massage FAQs
What is Holistic massage?
Holistic massage is a massage therapy that targets the whole body, physiologically, psychologically and emotionally. Swedish massage falls into this category. Physiologically Swedish massage helps to improve the muscular system, the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system, the circulatory system, the endocrine system and the nervous system. Regular massage helps to maintain and improve all these important systems in our bodies. The psychological and emotional effects of Swedish massage include creating feelings of well being, allowing for deep levels of relaxation and is an ideal complementary therapy for clients who are feeling stressed or unhappy.
What does it entail?
To benefit fully from Swedish massage a full body massage is always recommended, this will include the front of the body, legs, feet, arms, shoulders and neck, and the back of the body, legs, arms, back, shoulders and neck. A 30 minute upper body massage will include arms, neck and shoulders, both front and back. A 30 minute lower body massage will include feet, calves and the thighs front and back.
How often should I receive a full body Swedish massage?
A Swedish massage is designed to target many different systems in the body, and in order to benefit from the long term effects regular massage is recommended. How regular depends on the goals you would like to achieve, for moderate continuous pain, high stress levels or problem areas (such as tight calves or shoulders) I would recommend a weekly massage for four to five weeks. Depending on how you feel this will be changed to one massage fortnightly and eventually one massage every four to five weeks to maintain good health. For clients seeking holistic massage without any obvious problem areas, one massage every for to five weeks is enough maintain the many benefits.

It is not necessary to be completely naked during your full body massage and you will be asked to dress down to your briefs, however it is important to wear whatever you feel most comfortable with.
How long does it take?
The full body massage itself will usually take an hour, please allow for an extra 10 minutes to get dressed and follow any aftercare advice given. If this is your first massage with us you will receive a 10 minute consultation prior to you massage in order to discuss treatment plans and a brief outline of your medical history. An upper body massage will usually take 30 minutes again with allowances for getting dressed, aftercare advice and a short consultation for your first massage.
